When I walk into work every morning, I feel the excitement in the air around me. I wish everyone I see "good morning’ along with a bright smile. I see my employees getting help and sharing each of their unique perspectives that form the end product. Different teams come together to work on the same project. People chitchat in the kitchen area while making their green tea and coffee. This work culture was not handed down to them, we all work together towards being more mindful, creative, collaborative, and empathetic at the workplace.

A strong work culture is formed by a group of employees that share the same principles, values, honesty, positive attitudes, and perseverance in the face of difficult situations. Creating a healthy and mindful work environment does not happen overnight, nor is it passed down from leaders to employees. A healthy and dynamic work environment is the result of a collaborative effort by everyone in the organization, it requires the contribution of every individual.

I go to work thinking about the kind of pleasant environment I want to contribute to. Here are a few thoughts on how you can contribute to creating a meaningful workplace culture:

Communication: Communication issues lead to lower productivity because people are unclear about their expectations or priorities. These are issues that could be solved by communicating clearly and consciously. When you are communicating with a colleague, make sure the purpose and expectations of your communication are concise, empathic, and polite. Communication also involves listening. Listen actively and try to understand the other person instead of just hearing. It may be helpful for you to check in with your team once a week to discuss takeaways, wins, and learning opportunities to align yourselves with the company mission.

Work in harmony:

It is essential to work in real-time with your management and colleagues. Consider walking to someone’s desk and posing a question in person instead of emailing them. Meetings are another place where genuine connections may be made. Even if you are not the one facilitating the meeting, being polite, listening actively, and looking out for various points of view will make the process more interesting and productive.

Be welcoming of new ideas

A company’s culture should include an openness to new, creative ideas. Respect is a key part of creating a bold work environment. When an employee offers an idea, I always listen, even if the concept doesn’t work out for the organization in the future. The brainstorming session it initiates will be always beneficial, creating fresh and innovative ideas that improve the company’s overall performance. Instead of resisting fresh concepts, welcome them! Assist your colleagues in accomplishing their objectives. Allowing team members the flexibility and initiative to share and grow their ideas will increase creativity and confidence in the workplace.

It’s important to practice self-care at work if you are feeling anxious or stressed. There is a normal instinct of anxiety when a deadline approaches, but there are still little things you can do at both work and home to reduce your overall stress level.

Some lifestyle changes that improve your workplace experience:

  • Go for a walk during your break to get some fresh air.
  • Drink plenty of water and choose nutritious foods like almonds and vegetables.
  • Plan short breaks throughout the day to avoid burnout.
  • Maintain a journal — It could be an extremely effective tool for identifying and managing emotions.

An ideal workplace nurtures creativity, diversity, inclusivity, and empathy.

We all have the ability to change and improve the workplace. It is essential that people feel comfortable and free to express their ideas and offer ideas without fear. This sensitive approach will assist in creating a healthy work environment in which every person can thrive and succeed!
